 Artist Jacqueline ter Kuile

Jacqueline ter Kuile has been designing jewelry since 1978.  Working with self-referencing themes, Jacqueline’s collections range from classic inspirational jewelry fabricated from sterling silver and gold with precious stones, to hip and funky earrings created from recycled vintage tins. “My spiritual jewelry is pared down and quiet, while my recycled pieces are more about fun and expressing creativity and resourcefulness.  I am devoted to fine craftsmanship and finish, everything I make is designed to last a lifetime.  I just love seeing someone wearing one of my pieces.  I will say; “That’s cool!  I made that?” In her career she has worked as a gallery owner and curator, a museum administrator and professor at Moore College of Art and Design in Philadelphia, teaching Fine Arts 3D.  Jacqueline lives and works in Harleysville, PA.

A gallery reception will be held on November 1st from 5 - 9pm during

FIRST FRIDAYS in Skippack Village: ARTIST - JoAnn Moy / Gallery Opening / November 1st, 2013

Artist JoAnn Moy

Statement:  I think of objects in terms of their form as well as their function; breaking items down into shape and color, subtle gradients and contrasting shades. I seek to explore edges and the shadows they can create. Often when I think of what might live on my next canvas, I first look at the shadows. The shadows are as alive as the plants and flowers you will find in some of my work.

I build up tactile layers of paint gradually, while building up visual layers between foreground and background. Beginning with thin washes of oil color, turpentine and linseed oil, I sketch out the subject matter keeping in mind that one thing’s configuration affects another’s shape and shadows. The process has to be amorphic in that there is no one single path. As the piece grows with each level the image become more intelligible. My goal though is not to be photographic, but rather impressionistic.

My intention is to open a visual communication between myself and you, the viewer; I want to keep you engaged and your imagination active. Ultimately you will become a collaborator in the work as your ideas about my art develop and grow.

FIRST FRIDAYS in Skippack Village: ARTIST - Frank Rauscher / Gallery Opening / September 6th, 2013

Artist Frank Rauscher

Artist Frank Rauscher

After Studying with Ernest Muehlmatt, Frank began carving competitively in 1977.  Since then, he has won several awards among major carving competitions including Best in Show and the annual Ward Foundation show.

Recently, Rauscher’s artistic achievement has been in wood burnings and wood turnings which can be found in galleries throughout New England and the Tri-State area.

Rauscher’s creativity with wood is additionally accompanied by his talent for painting in watercolor, pastes, and pen-and-ink.

Following studies at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, Rauscher continued under the direction of local artists:  Chris Chadwick, Michael Adams, and Ann Brennan.

While being an accomplished bird and animal sculpture in wood, he presently devotes his time to watercolor while seemlessly enfusing his love of wood burning using acrylic washes to tint his wood plallets.

Rauscher conducts local lectures and seminars on wood burning, including carving detail.  He invites you to enter into his world of nature as he will be conducting live demonstration very weekend during his month long exhibition at Green Wolf’s Village Barn Shoppes.

Rauscher has carving for almost forty years and has been teaching for over thirty.  His primary subjects are song birds and birds of prey, with an occasional foray into wildlife carvings in three dimensions or relief.

Artist Ronda Lynn Michel

Contemporary Artist Ronda Lynn Michel

Ronda Lynn Michel, an award winning artist, began teaching herself to paint landscapes in oil after retiring from a career in dental hygiene.  A creative person her entire life, she has also produced marvelous works using acrylic and found objects.  Her recent medium of investigation is encaustic. She loves collage and wax is a perfect way to explore mixed media during the layering process.

Very spiritual in nature, she remains open to the voice of the universe and it's cues, creating her works in a space she calls "Inspiration Studio" on a mountaintop where she lives with her husband, Wayne. She has three sons and three grandchildren, one of which is a flourishing young artist, voted most creative in her class.

FIRST FRIDAY in Skippack Village: CONTEMPORARY ARTIST - Lee Muslin / Gallery Opening July 5th 2013

Contemporary Artist Lee Muslin

Lee Muslin is an explorer constantly discovering new ways to create.  She has an intuitive, organic approach to art making whether she is creating photomontages, mixed media collages or abstract paintings.  Transparency and layering plays a major role in all her artwork.  Color, rhythm and texture are the supporting concepts.

Lee attended the University of Delaware as a fine art major and subsequently received a degree in photography from Parsons School of Design.  Over the last 19 years, she has participated in over 200 exhibitions throughout the United States, as well as several other countries, including 13 solo shows.  Lee’s artwork has been in several museum exhibits including the Bergen Museum in New Jersey and the Attleboro Museum in Massachusetts.  She has been privileged to receive 20 awards and her work has been featured in 26 publications including the cover art for two Philadelphia Stories magazines and a book of poems.

ARTIST STATEMENT
To develop something visually intriguing out of pure imagination is the pinnacle of creativity.  Kandinsky stated, “Of all the arts, abstract painting is the most difficult. It demands that you know how to draw well, that you have a heightened sensitivity for composition and for color, and that you be a true poet. This last is essential.”

Guided by intuition, a fusion of gesture and geometry flows out onto the canvas in my abstract paintings. Although I begin my work with a basic composition and color scheme, I yield to what is happening in the painting as it develops. However, many subjective considerations and decisions are required to discover the painting's potential.  A back-and-forth between spontaneity and intention characterizes my approach.  To create a complexity of pattern and texture, I incorporate elements of collage in the layers of acrylic paint.  The juxtaposition of muted with intense color and transparent with opaque areas elaborates on the visual dance.

SKIPPACK SHOPS: After The Fire: “Thank you” from Merle Norman Cosmetics - By Jean Curtis, Owner

The staff of Merle Norman Cosmetics in Skippack Village wishes to thank the wonderful men and women of the local fire departments and first responders that quickly came to our rescue on Friday, May 3rd. Our deepest gratitude to all of you that there were no injuries to anyone on the scene because of your skill and efficiency!  Thank you, thank you!

We also extend our deepest appreciation to all of our customers, friends and neighbors who have reached out to us during this very difficult time. Several concerned retail business owners  in Skippack have even offered to share their store space temporarily to help out, which is so generous.  Your support, prayers, and encouragement have bolstered our spirits incredibly!

Our hearts go out to the owners of Head Over Heels and Hodge Podge, whose businesses also suffered great loss due to the extensive smoke and water damage caused by the fire in our store.  While the businesses have been temporarily shut down, plans are already underway to restore all three units for occupancy very soon.

Merle Norman is continuing business operations in a reduced capacity temporarily until the former studio can be opened for business again.  Clients may place mail orders for Merle Norman Cosmetic products by phone at 610-457-3384.  The headquarters office for franchise operations is assisting in filling orders  to keep our clients well supplied, which is very helpful, considering our extensive loyal client base.  Merle Norman is a family owned company for 82 years, still made in America with a large fan base worldwide. Their line of cosmetics are available only in franchise locations, like Skippack.

For progress reports on our business continuation plan, or to contact studio operations  go to the Facebook page for Merle Norman-Skippack at www.Facebook.com/MNskippack

Skippack is a great community, so please remember to "Shop Local" and support your neighborhood businesses! - By Jean Curtis
