Statement
"I grew up in Souderton and Green Lane (Pennsylvania), and attended Mennonite schools, graduating from Goshen College in Goshen, Indiana with a BA in Art in 1998.  I currently live in Red Hill, PA.  Previous exhibits include the Indian Valley Public Library in October of 2016 and the Church of the Holy Spirit in January of 2017.

skippack art gallery show featuring artist nathan stoyDuring my college years I was introduced to the writings of Carl Jung, and in his psychology I found a language for things that I felt and thought.  Most importantly, was the idea to listen metaphorically and see symbolically, and go beyond the literal explanation or interpretation. Working with dreams in this manner is essential to Jung's perspective, and it is how I see my own dreams and the artwork I produce.  A few of my pieces draw on imagery directly from my dreams (The Magic Mushroom Gang, She Gives the Golden Wedges, Two Dream Trees), while the rest I develop intuitively and with no preconceived notion of the final outcome.  Working in this way draws upon the unconscious for inspiration and allows for certain patterns or themes to emerge on their own.  Jung called these patterns archetypes and he said that they were the hereditary unconscious potentialities from which all patterns of thought and behavior derive.  One such archetype, anima or soul, underlies my whole motivation for making pictures in the first place.  Every image is a recording of my interaction with her.  Anima is the depth of knowing through death and the underworld experience.  Another mythological figure or archetype that influences my work is Ananke, or Necessity.  Necessity instigates this particular action and, as limitation, forms the peculiar and individual way that an image is made.  I have to accept the form that it takes and the energy that is available to represent it.  I try not to be burdened by too much realism and I think that a certain amount of roughness and primitively are more true to life.   These are just a few of the ways that I think about Jung and my artwork, but the possibilities could be seen from many other perspectives." - Nathan Stoy

About

“I was born and raised in Hungary. In 1965 I moved to the United States.
skippack art gallery show featuring artist eva ramanuskas

I always enjoyed art and I dreamed that someday I would paint. Finally in 1984 my dream came thru and I created my first painting. I never painted before and the painting was primitive but I loved it and I was hooked. I poured over art books, took workshops from prominent locally and nationally known artists, and I never stopped painting. A few years later I quit my career as an accountant to become a full time artist.

Painting opened my eyes to the beauty of God’s creation and that is what I strive to reflect in my paintings. I enjoy painting portraits and capturing the very essence of each person. Still life gives me the opportunity to create beautiful compositions with fruit and flowers. Landscapes and cityscapes give me the opportunity to capture the memories of special places I visited in the past. Every painting gives me a unique challenge and fulfillment.

I thank God for this wonderful gift.” – Eva Ramanuskas
