Local Skippack Resident Reviews of Skippack Village

Before the day ends, Debby and I visit Green Wolf’s Village Barn Shoppes, which features two art galleries, gift shops, winery, furniture and a museum. First we stop in to say hi to Craig Wolf, resident cool dude and manager of Green Wolf’s – Elegant Junque, which sells affordable art, clothing, gifts and décor and features new local artists each month.

Craig grew up here and he is passionate about Skippack, as evident by the elaborate outdoor holiday display he created. When I ask him to pinpoint what makes Skippack special, he speaks about the community of shopkeepers, “All the shops in the barn here, we all help each other. I love all my neighbors: Adornment, Floral & Hardy, Copper Partridge, Merle Norman. They are not just neighbors, they are good friends.”

The Village Barn’s December featured art exhibition will be Sherry Ward and Janice Ward. On hand at this exhibit will be a large array of pastel landscapes and still-life's as well as stone, clay, and cellulose sculptures.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS

Sherry Ward: Quilting and writing for many years, Sherry began painting when her oldest son went off to college. For several years she studied in an oriental brush style, painting mostly watercolor floras. Several years ago, Sherry branched out into landscapes and still-life’s, and began to experiment with other mediums.

Most recently she has begun studying pastel and has become an enthusiastic devotee of the medium. “The brilliant color, rich texture, and immediacy of the medium make it my most exciting painting experience ever,” Sherry proclaims. “The creative experience is amazing,” she added, “at some special moments, I forget myself and feel a certain oneness with the creation. This is the very best!

She equally enjoys working in her home studio in Schwenksville, PA or spending a beautiful day outdoors with other painting buddies.

Sherry continues to learn and grow as an artist taking classes and workshops in both the states and abroad. She’s affiliated with The Greater Norristown Art League, Perkiomen Valley Art Center, Wayne Art Center and Yates County Art Center in New York. She has been
exhibiting, selling and winning awards for many years.

Janice Ward: Janice is a painter and a sculptor. She enjoys exploring new and imaginative ways to express herself using a variety of materials. In her paintings she works in watercolor and oil. In her sculptures she works in stone, clay, and cellulose. For this show she is mainly featuring sculpture - past and present.

Her work has been selected for many juried shows such as Immaculata College, Yellow Springs, Rittenhouse Square, Phillip's Mill, and Woodmere Museum. She has a Fine Arts Degree from the University of
the Arts.

The Village Barn presents: Nicole Wolf - Multi Medium Artist

The Village Barn’s October featured art exhibition will be Nicole Wolf of Aspire Designs. On hand at this exhibit will be sculptures, paintings and trompe l'œil painted furniture for all art enthusiasts to enjoy.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

"I have always loved art in all forms, sculpture, furniture, gardening, architecture even television. I am visually stimulated. While working I began taking classes that interested me from drawing and painting to woodworking. In the interim I was married, renovated two houses and had my daughter Lily. When I wanted something I couldn’t afford to buy, I made it.

My love for antiques, a quest for bargains and a little creative ingenuity has inspired many one of a kind pieces. As time passed I started to receive requests asking me to find and create unique treasures. Although my pieces can sometimes be found in local antique shops most of my work is commissioned. Any time I can challenge myself by painting or making something for someone, it’s wonderful. I can’t think of anything I’d rather do."

"As I was wandering around Skippack Days, I heard a lady saying to a friend that even though real estate and rent is going up, people are committed to keeping Skippack small and quaint, and it’s true. This is a great little town."

The Village Barn presents: Shannon M. Miller - Fine Art Photographer

Current Exhibition

Shannon M. Miller

Fine Art Photographer

Sept. 1st -Sept. 30, 2010

Reception: To Be Announced

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Shannon Miller is a photographer based in Lederach, PA. She currently owns a full-time commercial photography business while exhibiting her photographs in galleries throughout the United States. She graduated in 1994 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Photographic Arts and Sciences from the Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester N.Y. Like most of Shannon’s work, some of these images are purposefully vague with respect to subject matter. They provide a window into an exotic, slightly foreign universe, allowing the viewer to drive meaning from them without pretense. Her intent is to focus on the interplay of color, light, shadows, and reflections with various natural textures. A successful image for Shannon is one that plucks the strings of thoughtfulness, meaning, and emotion in others. Pennsylvania.

Artist Stephen Allen art exhibit here at Green Wolf's Village Barn Shoppes

Artist Exhibit
July 1st through July 31st, 2010

Stephen Allen

Painter

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Stephen Allen was born December 3rd 1956 in Virginia but moved to Pennsylvania at the age of twelve. Stephen attended Bucks County Community College where he became a Fine Arts Major, specializing in landscape painting. He also attended Philadelphia College of Art where he wrote and illustrated a children’s book. He exhibited his work at local art and craft shows in the surrounding communities.

Stephen became fascinated with screen printing and built a screen printing shop down in his basement. Stephen was now able to reproduce his designs onto tee shirts or any flat surface. This pulled Stephen away from landscape painting for around 15 years.

In the last two years Stephen has gone back to his first love, “landscape painting” and has just recently completed paintings of the Perkiomen Trail, Jim Thorpe, and Skippack Pennsylvania.

Artist Robert Louis Williams art exhibit here at Green Wolf's Village Barn Shoppes

Artist Exhibit
June 2nd through June 30th, 2010

Robert Louis Williams
Painter

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Robert studied illustration and fine art at Philadelphia College of Art under Ben Eisenstadt, Albert Gold, Jane Piper and Isa Barnett.

At age 20, Robert was selected to serve as a Combat Artist for the U.S. Navy/Marine Corps Combat Art program in Vietnam.

In 1972, Robert lived and studied in Florence , Italy , working among a circle of artists, and in 1974, opened a studio in Cedars, PA, where he taught drawing and painting. He was commissioned for church interior restorations and has received private commissions for landscapes, portraits and still life.

In 1987, Robert established Motion Graphics and has painted hundreds of murals for commercial and residential clients. He has also been involved in numerous career development programs, teaching and working with high school students creating community murals.

Robert has always been inspired by Pennsylvania landscapes—the old farms and expanding vistas. He paints daily in studio and out in the countryside.

Robert won Best in Show at the Schuylkill River Heritage Area competition in 2008, and had a one-man show at Montgomery County Community College West in 2009.
The inspiration first, then the capacity for solid drawing, knowledge of color, good technique and an engaging composition—all together complete the cycle of creation, giving credibility to the artist and pleasure to the viewer. - R. L. Williams
