About
skippack first friday book signing author ronda lynn michelRonda Lynn Michel began teaching herself to paint after retiring from a 25 year career in the dental field.  A creative person her entire life, she has won awards for her works in acrylic and wax.   She loves the layering process of wax which builds texture and produces translucency and luminosity.

In 2014 her creative spirit led her to write  and illustrate several children's books.

  • How the 425 Saved Christmas
  • Sasha and the Stars: A Chanukah Tale
  • When The World Was Gray

Very spiritual, Michel remains open to the voice of the universe and it's cues, creating her works in a space she calls Inspiration Studio on a mountain top where she lives with her husband Wayne.  She has three sons and three grandchildren, one of which is a flourishing young artist.

Skippack Event Calendar: Artist Molly Light | First Friday Gallery Opening Reception - August 7th 2015

skippack first friday art gallery opening

Artist Molly Light
Watercolor / Mixed Media

Statement
“Ever since childhood, I have taken particular delight in observing natural phenomena in the world around me. Different places can suggest a variety of emotions and associations, from serenity to dramatic intensity, from intimacy to grand majesty. For me it is at once challenging and exhilarating to convey these impressions.

www.greenwolfsvillagebarn.comEach environment inspires a particular kind of response. I’m constantly experimenting with how to evoke the essence of a place...to convey what it feels like to be there... rather than simply describing the surface appearance. I’m impelled to capture the moment when nature makes me say, “Ahah!”

Sometimes I’ll gain inspiration from a scene and wait until I’m in my studio to process what I’ve seen. The majority of my abstract compositions come forth in this way. Abstract content encourages me to follow the most uninhibited exploration of each medium’s unique qualities. Not one to stay stuck in one way of doing things; I enjoy the freedom to choose from several different mediums to express my vision. The creative process is a joyous path of discovery and pushing beyond the boundaries of the familiar.

skippack first friday art gallery openingFor instance, I’ve heard many comments by painters who are afraid of watercolors because its fluid nature can seem so hard to control. It is quite e
asy to make mud and to end up with “unhappy” accidents. However, I love to explore these very qualities of watercolors that scare others away. Practicing a Zen-like consciousness of being in the moment, I push wetness to the extreme...deftly applying brush strokes and color based on the different stages of wetness or dryness of the painting. I fearlessly challenge watercolors to express their true potential for luminous and intense color.

Interestingly, the abstract explorations have translated back into freer techniques with my impressionistic landscapes. This is why I continue to paint and exhibit both abstracts and landscapes...they are all part of the same process of celebrating nature, expressing my passion for color and sharing positive, healing energy!"

FIRST FRIDAYS in Skippack Village: Artist Joseph A. Lopez / Gallery Opening Reception July 3rd, 2015

skippack first friday art gallery opening

Artist Joseph A. Lopez
Woodscapes

Statement
"Even though my life has not been one of a typical artist, I have never stopped sketching the world and ideas around me and I will always be an impossible dreamer looking for the beauty that surrounds us every day.  I have been accused of always needing a new form of artistic expression, but I can’t think of any other way to get to know myself better.

skippack first friday art gallery openingIf I had been surrounded by only art, I never would have learned where to find it.  A large portion of my early life was dedicated to a school with the sole purpose of turning ski racers into Olympians.  Injury was a constant companion and I found a love of music (in the form of a guitar) that helped me pass the time and subdue my latent creative thirst.   Continuing on with my education at Boston College, I was exposed to a wealth of new experiences and interests, but as my BA in Economics will tell you, not many of those things were of artistic descent.  The piano, did however, sneak it’s way into my life one summer.  After college, I began a career in Design and Sales of Point of Purchase displays, which I still do to this day.

skippack first friday art gallery openingI have always loved painting, but I must confess that the idea for my Woodscapes came to me because I was having a hard time finding a birthday present for my father.  I’m so glad that I decided to make him something instead.

I like my style to be free-form and bold.  Rather than using reference material, I like to use the character and qualities of the wood as a guide towards my final vision.  Wood is a very challenging medium to work with, but when used properly, it can make the art for you.

Carpentry and art seem like such an unlikely pairing.  On the surface they sit on opposing sides of the spectrum: one side favoring rigid adherence and the other emotional release, the age-old battle of form versus function.  It is the balancing of that ideal that makes this form of art such a great fit for me.  My paintings are an expression of who I am as an artist.  My woodscapes are an expression of my personality as a whole."

FIRST FRIDAYS in Skippack Village: Artist Sarah Iannozzi/ Gallery Opening Reception / April 3rd, 2015

sarah iannozzi art gallery opening

Artist Sarah Iannozzi

About The Artist
"As an artist I'm trying to show the beauty and tranquility I see.  Since I was very young I have been told that I see the world differently than others.  I was often told ‘You see the world through rose colored glasses’ and ‘if only I could see the world as you do’.  So I have been trying most of my life to help people to see it that way, a place of beauty and happiness.

It was difficult road finding a way to express myself since writing is not a strong point.  Over the years I made attempts at other mediums, pastels, stained glass, and wood.  It was not until December of 2013 that I found painting.  I have a very bright and open morning room and decided that I wanted a blue sky with realistic clouds on the ceiling, but for that I had to learn to paint, so I asked for an easel for Christmas.  I spent the next few weeks figuring out brushes, brush strokes, blending, how the paint reacts to each other, and different mediums.  In the beginning of February I prepared the ceiling and painted it blue. Then the day I was to begin the clouds I had a tragic accident, I fell off a ladder at work and had a 60lb cat tree land on me.  I hurt my shoulder, face, neck, leg, and back, and to this day I still can't hold my left arm up for any amount of time and am not allowed to climb.  The positive in all this is that I found a way not just to express myself, but a way people could see the world as I do with my rose colored glasses.

My work focuses on the environment and the world around us.  I have always spent a great deal of time ‘staring into space’, the reality was that I have been observing the world, specifically nature.  Looking at photos for inspiration once I get an idea I sketch it out on the canvas in a very basic way only a few lines.  I love to work with acrylic paint because for its quick drying speed.  I like the do a lot layering and the speed of drying is necessary for that all of my paintings this far consist of no less the 5 layer.  With oil paint it would take over a year for each painting.

In my most resent painting I chose to include architectural detail in order to give it more depth. I did find it particularly challenging making sure the detentions showed the depth I was looking to achieve.  The next few I'll be doing will be smaller.  My goal is to attempt an even more impressionistic style.  I have several shows coming up for 2015 as well as interest from a well-known gallery in NY that will hopefully be booked for 2016.” – Sarah Iannozzi
